2014 Annoucement

Hello!

We are changing how things work at Inspired Comics Collective. We're not planning to make any new members only anthologies. This also means we are not going to have a collective table at events anymore. This is to do with boring administration reasons and we are all still good friends. We formed as a group way back in spring 2008 and it has been a lot of fun learning how to make comics together. Thank you to everyone who has been a member or helped us along the way.

I am going to keep this blog up to date with members news. There are some exciting personal projects you might have spotted which will be continuing this year.

I'm going to start with some news from Gem Sheldrake. The Wastelands has recently been added to the Comixology app for mobile devices. Click here for more information on downloading it.

Jack Davies has also made Alex The Abomination available for pdf download. Click here for more information on downloading it. You can also interact with Alex herself through Facebook and Twitter.

What's The Time Mrs. Woolf? is a quarterly zine created by Sarah Fogg and Lily-rose Beardshaw. The new Winter issue is available online through Sarah Fogg's Etsy Shop.

If you would like to buy a copy of our last anthology Mixtape. I have 5 copies left and they are available to order online through my Etsy Shop.

I'll be back here in a couple of weeks with some more news
Thank you very much to everyone who supported us as a group or bought our anthologies

Music Wars

Hello! This is our final preview page from the anthology written and illustrated by Sammy Borras. Music Wars is a new short story comic following Ted and Tim. Their latest challange is a local battle of the bands competition.

Don't forget we'll be at Bristol Comics Expo tomorrow! I've packed the comics ready to go! This afternoon I'll try and get a blog post listing what we'll be taking and information about free mini comics!

Thanks
Sammy

A Ghost Story

A Ghost Story is the 2nd comic in Mixtape created by Sarah Fogg. I really love the eiry mood of this comic created by the overall story telling choices and media experiments. Sarah has a great diverse set of skills.

We're excited because we're attending Bristol Comic Expo this weekend. If you can't visit then don't forget the anthology is now avaliable online through Etsy and we will be taking copies to London MCM Expo and Manchester MCM Expo

Thanks
Sammy

Alex On Patrol

Jack Davies and Jacob Boniface have created a couple of short stories about Alex's adventures. Our Mixtape anthology features Alex On Patrol in greyscale but I know Jack has been colouring the pages for a full colour compilation. It's looking great! I will be back to blog the release when it's announced.

Thanks

The Melody Of Life

The next comic preview is The Melody of Life written by Laura McNulty and illustrated by Sammy Borras. I don't normally have backgrounds or objects as the main priority of my comics. Laura always gives me a good challange when I get her anthology scripts.

Don't forget that the anthology is now avaliable online through Etsy and we will be attending Bristol Comic Expo, London MCM Expo and Manchester MCM Expo

Thanks

Tea

Shaz submitted a little comic about Tea for our Mixtape anthology. It's a comic showing a slightly darker slice of life moment. I don't want to give away too much! Shaz is currently working hard on her graphic design portfolio which you can find here.

I'm excited because the printed comics are due to arrive today. :D

Music Cupboard

Yep! The blog is back for 2 weeks of page previews from the new anthology, Mixtape. I like to upload these in order they appear in the book so this first page comes from Sarah Fogg's super cute Poppet comic. If you're interested in asking Poppet a question for her regular zine feature there is information on WTTMW?'s tumblr here.

Thanks

Music Cupboard by Sarah Fogg - Design and Development

Poppet! Sarah has worked hard this year and created 2 comics for our anthology. Her second story is about Poppet and her fairy friends causing mischief! These are Sarah's character sheets for the comic. Poppet also runs her own regular 'ask poppet' question feature in What's The Time Mrs. Woolf? (quarterly zine created by Sarah and Lily)

This is the last of the design and development posts. We have sent our comic files to the printers so I have the 'playlist' order ready to give you 1 page sneak peaks of everyone's work.

The anthology should be ready in time to take to Bristol Expo and London MCM Expo in May followed by Manchester MCM Expo in July.

Thanks!!

Mixtape Cover by Sarah Fogg

We're now able to announce that the anthology we're working on is called Mixtape and the cover has been illustrated by Sarah Fogg. The comics don't have a theme this year so the variety reminds me of a playlist of songs from different genres.

There are more behind the scenes blogs to post this week. It's getting very exciting because we're near to our print deadline.

Thanks!

A Ghost Story by Sarah Fogg - Design and Development

Hello! Sarah Fogg sent me some media tests she did for her comic. It looks great and really fits well with the mood of the story. Instead of guessing I asked Sarah to talk through how she got this effect:
I didn't do much development work for this comic as the idea came together very quickly, but I did have to do some media tests. In university I did a longer comic by drawing in water-soluble ink and then spreading it around the page with a paint brush. I thought the floaty effect would be good for a ghost story (the original project was a ghost story too), but I'd long since lost the pen I used, so I did a few doodles of the characters using new pens, on a couple of different kinds of paper. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for the blog, the first combination of a cheap cartridge pen on bristol board worked fine, so I only did these few little pictures before starting the comic itself.
I do have at least 1 more design and development blog left for you so keep a eye out this weekend. Next week I'm hoping we can show you the cover submissions and let you know which has been picked by the group.

Thanks
