The Mysterious Land of Under-Noodle

The final preview page is from The Mysterious Land of Under-Noodle by Sarah Fogg. The comic follows  people that are small enough to live on top of a noodle bowl. I really love how good Sarah is at creating entirely new fictional worlds for comics. I don't want to give away too much encase I spoil the comic.

The Butcher and the Tattooist

The Butcher and the Tattooist by Lily-rose Beardshaw is the next comic featured in our new food themed anthology, Eat Me! Lily originally worked on the story while doing a year of university studies in Brussels and translated the project for our anthology. Below are some of the original development work with notes in french. 

As well as translating the language some of the places have been edited for the anthology version. Lily told me that the french super market Carrefour, became Tesco, and the Canal du Charleroi became the Thames but Marc's name is still spelt the french way. Borough Market abattoirs were originally the Abattoirs d'Anderlecht. Most of the characters are based on real faces Lily sketched at a market in Brussels. 

Lily recently finished a internship with the London Print Studio and their Parallel Lives anthology is available through Amazon.

Anthology Photos

The printed comics arrived yesterday so I have taken some pictures. Unfortunately I only have a phone camera so these were the best I could get. I'm pleased with the print quality and I can't wait till Bristol Expo now.  The cover art is by Sarah Fogg and comic in the photo is by Jack Davies. 

I also took a photo of the Catherine Reda's Bunny food stickers. They're sooo cute. We will have them on sale at Bristol Expo in a couple of weeks.

Food Wars

The second Eat Me! preview this week comes from my own comic, Food Wars. The comic follows a robot, school girl, goth and scientists while they cook for public votes on telly. Contestants Ted and Tim are characters that originally appeared in a short webcomic story called Smoothie Wars (its not like a sequel, both stories are self contained). On the first page there is also a small cameo of Ed from another webcomic called Best Day Ever.

The Italian Dish

This weeks Eat Me! preview is from The Italian Dish was written by Luke Bayliss and illustrated by Harry Griffin-Hayes. They also collaborated on a gritty comic for our last anthology, Science Fiction Octuple Feature.

We're just getting the last things sorted for Bristol Expo. This weekend I've been cutting out stickers of Catherine Reda's Bunnies which were featured in the last blog post.

Bunnies Incorporated Into Various Food Items

When I opened the e-mail containing the files for this comic I think I nearly died of cute overload. Bunnies Incorporated Into Various Food Items by Catherine Reda is the second comic featured in Eat Me!. Every time I think I have located the cutest food item I look back and realise the others are just as cute, if not cuter. Cat has recently joined Tumblr and has been posting lots of wonderful comics, illustrations and other handmade things.

Many Years Ago

The first preview page is from Many Years Ago by Jack Davies. I posted some of his design and development work a couple of weeks ago. The food theme has been interpreted in really different ways by everyone in the group and Jack's stone age story seemed like the perfect introduction to the book. 

Jack kindly offered to draw title pages for everyone's comics in the book and this is his alternative cover design in full colour.

Eat Me!

Hello! Sorry I took a break from blogging so I would have a bit of extra time to sort the files and things. I'm pleased to say the files have been sent to the printers on schedule and hopefully we'll have the books ready for Bristol Expo in May. I'm very excited. The cover illustration and title picked by the group is by Sarah Fogg and the anthology includes comics by Jack Davies, Catherine Reda, Harry Griffin-Hayes, Luke Bayliss, Sammy Borras, Sarah fogg and Lily-rose Beardshaw. I'll be posting preview pages and some more development work over the next couple of weeks.

Food Anthology - Sammy Borras Design Work

This is something I drew for fun while writing my submission for the food anthology. Some of the characters have appeared in a webcomic short story called Smoothie Wars.

I think this is the first time I've needed to create 'cake sheets' for a comic. This food anthology just makes me want to eat cake every day.

Birmingham Comic Con

Thanks everyone who stopped by our table over the weekend. And a special thanks to Sarah and Jack for helping out and smiling for a photo. 

This is some of Sarah's stuff and the What's The Time Mrs. Woolf? zines. Issue 3 was released at this event and make sure to keep an eye out on the blog for info on the new articles.

Food Anthology - Jack Davies Design Sketches

This weeks design and development work is by Jack Davies. His short story for the anthology is an alternative take on early invention. I'm pleased that the comics I've seen from the group so far will make a diverse anthology and manage to stay very close to the food theme. You can find more of Jack's comics on his blog. 

The next event we'll be attending is coming up this weekend (31st March - 1st April). We'll be at Birmingham Comic Con in the Comics Village section of the MCM hall. We'll have our usual anthologies and any extras members bring along to sell.

Food Anthology - Progress

Hello! The members of Inspired Comics are busy working away on a new anthology. We've picked a Food theme this time and I'm going to be blogging some design and development work and little previews over the next couple of months before the release. The first pages I was sent to blog about are some potato based comic pages by Harry Griffin-Hayes and you can find more of his comics on his blog.  

Lily-rose Beardshaw has been involved in helping with the London Print Studio anthology - they are having an exhibition launch party tonight. It might be a bit late for you to head to London but I think there is information on the site to get hold of their anthology or read all the interesting things the interns have been getting up to.

2012 News

Hello! I have some news for this spring term.

Inspired will be with Itch Publishing and helping with the art competition at Midlands MCM Expo in Telford on Saturday 18th February. You can find the information for this years competition here or see last years winners here.

I can also confirm we will have a table at Bristol Comic Expo in May.

What's The Time, Mrs. Woolf? is a feminist zine created by Sarah and Lily. Issue 2 was released recently containing comics, illustrations and articles by a couple of Inspired's members. Both issues are available to buy from their online shop and hopefully from our table at events. (Zine cover by Meg White) The zine has an open submission system so check their website if you would like to get involved!

Star of Bethlehem

This is our 3rd festive picture by Sarah Fogg. This is the Princess and a robotic Priestess from the world Sarah created for her short story in our newest anthology Science Fiction Octuple Feature.

Sorry its not Sarah's fault this picture is being posted so late today. I was supposed to get this online much earlier but I forgot because I was still sorting the last couple of Christmas cards. Sorry!  I hope you're all more organised than I am this year. XD
